Wanganui's Heartland championship rugby squad are intent on focusing on their 2009 campaign.
To the point where any player heard talking at training about last season's Meads Cup-winning performance is fined two bucks for their troubles.
It's a fun scheme organised by the players themselves to remind them what happened then won't decide whether they can repeat the effort this time round.
And it's got the full support of coach Guy Lennox who says the concentration needs to be on looking forward rather than back.
"It's back to square one, being the defending champions doesn't actually put points on the board, "Lennox said. "Quite honestly we are sick and tired of hearing about what we did last year, it's in the past as far as we are concerned.".
Lennox was only "mildly happy" with Wanganui's effort when they opened their 2009 programme with a 46-6 victory over East Coast in Wanganui last weekend.
"We made a lot of mistakes, there was plenty of room for improvement," he said. "We did some things well, and some things poorly.Overall I would say it was pretty ordinary".
Lennox was in Masterton to watch Wairarapa-Bush challenge Wellington for the Ranfurly Shield earlier in the season and while he admits to knowing little about their individual strengths he is anticipating a hard match tomorrow.
"They are at home and they need the win, that's a dangerous combination," he said. "We don't see ourselves as hot favourites, not at all.".
Lennox said Wanganui would be looking to play their usual expansive style of rugby with the onus being on their forwards to provide a regular supply of quality ball for their backs.
"We like to win games by scoring more tries than the opposition and tomorrow's approach will be no different," he said.
No looking back for focused Wanganui
