Masterton people noticing dirty water coming through their taps are being asked to avoid using washing machines. Suspended sediment has been disturbed in the trunk main following a system failure yesterday and this has come through the pipes into some homes.
Masterton District Council has confirmed there is no health or safety risk from the sediment, but it could discolour washing.
The council is working to remedy the problem.
The council has had water issues of its own. On Monday a water filter in an upstairs kitchen in the council building burst, resulting in flooding to a corridor and the Frank Cody Lounge below. The water ran for several hours until discovered by staff on Tuesday morning and a clean-up operation started.
