No further charges over Kahui twins deaths - police

Police have confirmed no further charges will be laid over the deaths of babies Chris and Cru Kahui.

Their father Chris Kahui was charged with murder after the twins died from head injuries six years ago. He was acquitted by a High Court jury after 10 minutes of deliberation in 2008.

Mr Kahui again came under the spotlight after a coroner's report in July placed the blame with him, noting he was the only person near the three-month-olds when their fatal injuries happened.

Police at the time said they would consider the new evidence given at the coroner's inquest before deciding if they would press any other charges over the deaths.

But police have now confirmed no further charges would be laid following a comprehensive review, One News reported.

Mr Kahui's lawyer Lorraine Smith said he was pleased with the decision.

"He's asked me specifically to say to the people of New Zealand that he did not harm his twins.''

The twins' mother Macsyna King was never charged over the deaths.

Police have said they would assess any new information that comes to light.
