Police say there was no foul play to a car fire near Nelson in which a person was dead.
Detective Senior Sergeant Ciaran Sloan said police were satisfied the circumstances surrounding the car fire on the Whangamoa Saddle on Saturday was not suspicious.
Police said they know the identity of the person found dead in the scorched car, but that the results of forensic testing would be required to confirm that.
Police are providing assistance to the person's next of kin through support agencies and the matter has been referred to the coroner.
