KEY POINTS:
Police believe the death of a woman found in her kayak on Lake Rotorua was not suspicious.
The 34-year-old was found yesterday afternoon by search and rescue teams on the north-western foreshore of the lake.
Police said the woman set out for a two-hour kayak trip from her Ngongotaha home about 9.30am yesterday and the alarm was raised after she failed to return.
The Rotorua Lakes volunteer coastguard, search and rescue teams and the Baytrust rescue helicopter launched a search of the lake area and recovered her body.
Detective Sergeant John Wilson said the kayaker's death appears to have been a tragic accident, but police will have to wait for a post mortem examination to reach any conclusion.
He said police are still seeking witnesses who may have seen the woman in her yellow kayak wearing a dark coloured jacket.
