No evidence at Bain trial today

No evidence will be heard today in the David Bain murder trial, as the judge hears argument about important legal matters.

Witness evidence was originally to recommence in the High Court trial in the afternoon, but it was decided late this morning that the whole day would be needed to address the legal issues, and the jury was released for the day.

None of the legal argument before Justice Graham Panckhurst can be reported by the media because it is "in chambers". The public is also excluded from this discussion.

David Bain, 37, is on trial for the murder of his parents and three siblings in their Dunedin family home on June 20, 1994. His defence team say his father, Robin Bain, 58, shot dead the rest of the family before turning the .22 rifle on himself.
