Fonterra says it is still too early to say whether it will rebuild its fire-ravaged factory at Takaka.
The factory, which processes 1 million litres of milk a day during the height of the season and is Golden Bay's biggest employer with almost 100 staff, was seriously damaged on Tuesday night.
When the new season begins in August, Fonterra will truck the milk to its Richmond and Kaikoura plants. But Allan Bennett, manager for the upper South Island, said the windy Takaka Hill road was a "logistical concern".
