KEY POINTS:
Former National Party leader Don Brash turned down an offer to appear on Dancing with the Stars after consulting his wife Je Lan.
The former leader of the National Party was approached by TVNZ in January, and asked if he would like to come and dance. "It didn't seem like me," Brash, also a former governor of the Reserve Bank, told the Herald on Sunday yesterday.
"It was not consistent with my persona, it really wasn't appropriate," he said, although he admitted to enjoying watching the 2006 series of the high-rating TV One celebrity dancing contest. "I watched it occasionally to see how Rodney Hide was doing and he didn't do too bad."
Brash and his wife are understood to have discussed Brash's potential involvement at length.
Brash, who left Parliament in December, said he would not have been able to fulfil the requirements of a Dancing with the Stars schedule. "I have a number of things on the boil, including going to South East Asia for consulting work."
Another previous political contestant, Georgina Beyer said: "Brash might have satisfied a slightly more senior audience. But you have to be quick on your feet and Don was always walking on planks."
