It is unlikely charges will be laid after a World War II-style hand grenade caused a security scare when it was found at the international mail centre near Auckland Airport.
The centre was evacuated following the discovery on Wednesday.
Auckland Airport police Senior Sergeant Graeme Fleming said it appeared the grenade was inert.
A person had bought the grenade over the internet and it had been sent from either Ireland or Denmark - stories were conflicting, Mr Fleming said.
The package it was sent in was inadequately labelled but it was unlikely charges would be laid.
"We're not happy about the situation. The person it was sent to is going to be interviewed but there's no sort of prosecution that we can take."
