A new footwear shop that will employ a sales team of 18 is coming to Masterton
No.1 Shoe Warehouse is scheduled to open in early October on the site of the old Winzenberg building at 210 Queen Street.
It will be one of 32 stores owned by the footwear chain throughout New Zealand and will carry an estimated 30,000 pairs of shoes and boots.
The new store at 800 sqm will be one of the biggest retail leases in Masterton and will form part of the portfolio of the shoe warehouse's parent company Hellaby Holdings Ltd.
Hellaby's also owns Hannahs, Rodd and Gunn and The BBQ factory outlets throughout the country.
Ty Dallas, of Colliers International in Wellington, said the decision by No1 Shoe Warehouse to start up in business in Masterton was further prove of confidence in the town as a retail location.
"In the past Masterton has been under represented by national brands," he said.
The No1. Shoe Warehouse is among a crop of new or relocating businesses announced for Masterton.
Dick Smiths is moving along Queen St from its current location alongside Hedley's Bookshop to a new site next to Nikolaison's Photo Centre.
The new Pak'n'Save, which includes a petrol station, has been announced for the Kuripuni New World site.
Just opened in Queen St is Coin Save, a bargain goods store that is part of a nationwide franchise and moved into a new building near the Trocadero Cafe.
There is also talk in business circles that the old Lansdowne Primary School site is to be developed for what could be another supermarket. The school was closed as part of Education Minister Trevor Mallard's review of primary schools. Lansdowne was amalgamated with Hiona and Totara Drive to become Lakeview School.
There are also rumours circulating about large retail chain stores being developed for the town along Ngaumutawa Road. On the drawing board for that area is a major expansion of Mitre 10.
