One Aucklander had nine million reasons to celebrate last night after winning Lotto's sixth largest prize of all time. The Powerball winner took home a total of $9.5 million with a sequence of bizarre numbers - 1, 3, 4, 6, 12, 17, and a bonus number of 2.
The lucky ticket was bought from Mangere's Ponderosa Superette with $9.1 million coming from winning Powerball First Division and $361,290 from also winning Lotto First Division.
Powerball was last won in June, with a $3.6 million prize won on a ticket sold at Manukau City Lotto in Auckland, and follows an $18 million win on May 20 by a ticket sold at Kaeo Four Square in Northland.
Lotto Strike was also struck last night, a win worth $867,467.
NZ Lotteries chief executive Todd McLeay said the win was perfect icing on the cake for Lotto's 1000th draw celebrations a fortnight ago.
"We are really thrilled for our latest multi-millionaire," he said.
