A large bike crash in the Canterbury town of Leeston has put nine people in hospital, one with serious injuries.
Newshub reported that two people were airlifted to hospital by Westpac rescue helicopter, one seriously injured and one with moderate injuries.
The cyclists were riding in a road race which happens regularly in the area. About 40 cyclists were riding in a group when the accident happened, a St John spokesperson told Newshub.
The ambulance was called at around 7:45pm. The Leeston fire brigade also attended the crash.
