Night vision googles were needed in the overnight rescue of a man in his 70s who was suffering a serious medical event, a Palmerston North based Rescue Helicopter spokesman said.
The helicopter was sent to the Dunedin man in Taihape about midnight.
The patient was being transported by road ambulance from a rural location and was flown by the rescue helicopter to Palmerston North Hospital, the spokesman said.
The helicopter was used due to the distance to hospital and the urgent need for specialist care and treatment.
"The mission was completed with the crew using night vision goggles," the spokesman said.
