A hunter who got lost while hunting with friends in the Eastern Ruahine Ranges has been rescued.
The Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter was sent to the ranges, north of Woodville, overnight to search for the hunter.
Palmerston North Police Search and Rescue had concerns for the inexperienced hunter's safety, and co-ordinated the search operation.
The rescue helicopter had to be equipped with a Nitesun search light, FLIR camera and its crew wore night-vision goggles.
The man, in his 20s, signalled to the search crew with a torch and was then loaded into the helicopter and taken to a nearby road-end just before midnight.
