KEY POINTS:
The jury in the trial of five people charged over the death of Rotorua toddler Nia Glassie has retired from deliberations for the night.
Over the past month the High Court at Rotorua has heard details of abuse suffered by three-year-old Nia in the months ahead of her death from brain injuries at Auckland's Starship Hospital in August last year.
Wiremu Curtis, who had been in a relationship with Nia's mother Lisa Kuka, 35, and his brother Michael Curtis, 22, have pleaded not guilty to murdering Nia.
Kuka, Michael Curtis's partner Oriwa Kemp, 18, and Nia's cousin Michael Pearson, 20, have pleaded not guilty to manslaughter.
All but Kuka are also accused of multiple, less serious offences.
