Jeune’s name was among the top 16 on the digital scoreboard in the clubhouse but he is not competing in the champs, which was good news for the player who was sitting in 17th - Neil Hansen.
The field contains a crew of Electrinet Park members taking advantage of a discounted membership deal. The best of them was Dan Collier, one of a group of four players to shoot 78.
Collier was joined by fellow “Parkies” Pete Stewart (79) and Matt Henwood (79), who meet in the first round of matchplay this Saturday.
Hansen got the No 16 spot, and a first-round date with Maruszewski, with 83 on countback from four others.
Among the surprise non-qualifiers was Pete Anderson, whose chances were put paid to by an 11 on the par-4 seventh hole.
The round of the day was a personal milestone for Stephen Francks.
Francks broke 80 for the first time at Poverty Bay - 78 - which easily topped qualifying in the intermediate division.
He was six strokes ahead of one of the higher-handicapped players in the division - Ross Chalmers (84), who was second on countback.
Defending champion Vance Richardson was fifth.
Bill Simpson’s 95 earned him the top seeding in the five-man junior division while Simon Lardelli and Peter Goodwin are straight through to the endeavour final.
Qualifying was also the second round of the Dodgshun Cup men’s strokeplay series, with the third and final round held on Sunday.
Brown won Division 1 with a three-round total of 231 - 13 shots clear of Stefan Andreassen.
Richard Foon celebrated his birthday by winning Division 2 for the third year running with a 253 total.
Simpson successfully fended off all opposition in the one-man Division 3.

Patutahi
If you are going to knock Hukanui Brown from the Patutahi senior men’s club champion throne, you’d better bring it.
Brown didn’t play in the first qualifying round of the champs two Sundays ago. He didn’t need to.
He rocked up on Sunday and spat out a 3-under 67 in the second qualifier, comfortably good enough to earn the No 1 seeding as he bids to win six senior titles on the trot.
Few would bet against him. Dwayne Russell was the No 2 qualifier on 71 and looks his biggest threat in the six-man field.
Notable absentees were last year’s runner-up Shayde Skudder and Brown’s older brother Eddie jnr.
Hamish Harris topped the full field of 16 intermediate qualifiers with 3-over 73 - a score that would have qualified him third in the seniors.
Harris, who also won the senior net on Sunday with 65, was five shots ahead of No 2 seed Jon Priestley.
Korban Harrison-Allan’s 86 was best of the 13 juniors, with Graham Holland second on 91.
Warwick Stevens nabbed the No 1 spot in the five Endeavour qualifiers on countback from Chris Kaa - both shot 100.
Denise Johnston’s 94 was 12 shots ahead of the next best in the women’s field.
The first round of matchplay is on Sunday.

Electrinet Park
The brothers Hayes are on track for a sibling showdown as the Te Kanawa Cup men’s pairs heads into the quarter-finals stage this Sunday.
Luke Hayes and Brad Reynolds are in the top half of the draw while Josh Hayes and Peter Stewart are in the bottom - meaning two more wins for each will see a Hayes v Hayes confrontation for one of the club’s most sought-after men’s trophies.
Standing in the way of Luke and Reynolds are canny combo Ray Walford and Derek Craven.
Next up for Hayes and Stewart are dark horses Duane Mauheni and Mason Emery.
Craig Christophers couldn’t get his hands on the Barns-Graham Cup men’s pairs title at Poverty Bay so his sights are set on another Park/Poverty Bay silverware double. Christophers qualified fourth in the intermediate men’s club champs at the Bay, and he and Matt Henwood are still standing in the Te K Cup.
Henwood is also eyeing a two-club double, as he is in the mix in the top 16 senior men’s club champs at Poverty Bay.
They have a tough Sunday quarter-final challenge in Steve Webb and Ian Loffler.
Heath Tupara and Michael Bond are also chasing a title double of sorts - the Te K Cup and the Poverty Bay men’s club hockey crown as “stoneage” members of the formidable YMP A team.
Their Te K last-eight opponents are the winners of the yet-to-be-played match between Wally Whangapirita and Steve Johnson and brothers Sel and Quentin Peneha.
The final round of the Foster Cup women’s pairs competition is teeing off from 9am on Saturday.
The first round of qualifying in the women’s club champs is from 10am on Sunday.
