A New Zealander has been appointed to a top position within the United Nations.
Jan Beagle, who has worked in New York for the UN for the past 25 years and was previously with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, has been appointed Assistant Secretary General for Human Resource Management.
A spokesman for Foreign Affairs Minister Phil Goff said the position was a significant one particularly given the focus at the UN of strengthening its management practices and revitalising its human resources.
Ms Beagle, who was born and educated in Auckland, spent five years working at the New Zealand permanent office at the UN before joining the organisation.
