A New Zealand man has drowned while surfing off the far north coast of New South Wales.
Other surfers noticed the 60-year-old was in trouble at Angourie Beach, near Yamba, about 12.45pm (2.45pm NZT) today.
They went to his aid and brought him ashore unconscious.
Paramedics arrived a short time later and attempted to revive the man but he died at the scene, police said.
Local police are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the man's death.
