The NZ Herald's weekly brand audience (print and digital) is at a new record-high - 2.246 million, or more than half of NZ's adult population.
When combined with the Herald's sister platforms, that number jumps to more than 2.6 million New Zealanders keeping up with the latest news via NZME's multiple news platforms.
News readership results released by Nielsen today show the Herald's weekly print readership is up 21,000, with weekend paper readership also on the rise. Almost 800,000 Kiwis are now reaching for the Weekend Herald or Herald on Sunday each week.
The Herald is once again a finalist for News Website of the Year and News App of the Year, the two biggest digital awards. The Herald has won both awards for each of the past two years.
NZME's BusinessDesk website is also up for Website of the Year.
The NZ Herald and Weekend Herald are finalists for best metropolitan and best weekend paper respectively while NZME's Rotorua Daily Post will be looking to retain the title of best regional newspaper and Kāpiti News is up for Community Newspaper of the Year. Viva and Canvas are vying to be Magazine of the Year.
The Herald's 90% Project is up for Editorial Campaign of the Year along with The Brains Trust, a special series focused on dementia.
NZME - publisher of the Herald - is also top of the pops when it comes to finalists in the NZ Radio Awards, with 66 finalists across all categories at the awards.
Newstalk ZB and ZM are among the finalists for metropolitan station of the year, going up against MediaWorks' More FM and The Breeze.
Newstalk ZB's breakfast host Mike Hosking is up for best talk presenter for a breakfast or drive show - as is Drive host Heather du Plessis-Allan.
In May, Hosking surged to a new record of more than half a million listeners, with an audience of 511,700 New Zealanders, the highest for any breakfast show in the country, ever.
NZ Herald editor Murray Kirkness says the latest readership results show audiences continue to flock to the Herald's trusted, quality news platforms.
"We saw a noticeable increase in news readership due to Covid, and we expected that might drop as life slowly returns to normal. So we are pleased to see our audiences continue to show their support and seek quality, trusted news content – be it through digital or print."
NZME's daily newspapers the NZ Herald, Hawke's Bay Today, Bay of Plenty Times, Rotorua Daily Post, Northern Advocate and Whanganui Chronicle reach 314,000 more people per week than all other daily competitor newspapers combined.
And NZ Herald Premium digital subscriptions also continue to grow year on year, totalling 140,000 - including more than 83,000 paid digital-only subscribers.
NZME's property news and listing destination platform, OneRoof, has grown by 4 per cent across both its commercial and residential print platforms, now reaching 779,000 Kiwis.
NZME chief executive Michael Boggs says the latest readership survey results build on NZME's recent success in the latest GfK Commercial Radio audience survey, which saw Newstalk ZB remaining the top commercial station for the 14th year running, and The Mike Hosking Breakfast seeing record numbers for any commercial radio breakfast show in the country.
"NZME is an innovative, creative, forward-thinking business and we are continually transforming and adapting.
"To see the continued growth across our news platforms – be it print, digital or audio is fantastic, and we thank our audiences across New Zealand for their continued support," he said.
