A New Zealand fishing vessel is in distress in rough waters of the Southern Ocean.
The Australian newspaper reports that an Australian ship has gone to the aid of the Janas, from Nelson, which has a crew of 21. The ship has reportedly had an engine fault near Macquarie Island.
None of the crew of the Janas have been reported injured.
"They said they would be interested in a tow to get to some sheltered waters, so that's what we are doing - trying to affect that now," Aurora Australis voyage leader Rob Bryson told The Australian online today.
