New Zealand is being described as a world leader in tackling the endless arrival of new types of party pills.
Associate Health Minister Peter Dunne spoke to a United Nations Commission in Vienna this week about the Psychoactive Substances Bill, which will mean manufacturers have to prove their product is safe before it can be sold.
There was strong interest from nations including the United States, Hungary, Ireland, Britain, Australia and Canada.
Mr Dunne says most countries have tried banning synthetic highs, but soon had the same problem of new variations returning to the market quickly.
"That was why we took the stand of saying we're going to shift the goalposts here, and say prove your product is safe.
