New year liquor ban for Taupo and Turangi

New year liquor bans have been announced by the Taupo District Council.

The consumption and possession of alcohol is prohibited in public areas of Taupo's central business district and all lakefront reserves between Kinloch and Five Mile Bay between 6pm on December 31 and 4am on January 1 2002.

In Turangi and Tongariro the ban applies to most waterfront reserves between Hatepe and Whareroa from 8pm on New Year's eve to 6pm on January 1.

The ban gives police the power to search parcels, bags and containers carried within the areas of the liquor ban.
