Wellington's new British war memorial sculpture has been cordoned off.
The grass around the sculpture has been replaced and the lawn is waterlogged and boggy.
The striking sculpture of two trees was designed by Weta Workshop at the request of the British High Commission.
It was unveiled by Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson just last week.
A Ministry for Culture and Heritage spokeswoman says the high number of people visiting it, combined with wet weather, churned up the grass.
