KEY POINTS:
Marine geologists have discovered two new submarine volcanoes near Raoul Island.
The scientists were investigating the past behaviour and risk of volcanoes in the Kermadec Arc when they stumbled on the find. The volcanoes have relatively small craters measuring about four kilometres in diameter.
However one is very deep measuring about a thousand metres from the rim to the crater floor.
The team has also mapped inside the Raoul crater which erupted last year claiming the life of Department of Conservation worker Mark Kearney.
