Positive feedback has been the order of the day for the new water-based hockey turf at Clareville which will officially be opened on Saturday, July 4.
Club games have regularly been played on the facility over the past fortnight and Wairarapa Hockey Association administration officer Kelly Govan has been delighted with the comments of players.
She said they were quickly coming to terms with the surface being bouncier in nature than the older sand-based turf and therefore requiring a different skill level in some aspects of the game.
"The feedback from players and officials has been very positive, everybody seems to agree it is going to a huge asset for Wairarapa hockey," Govan said.
The July 4 opening ceremony is scheduled for 12.30pm and will be followed by Wellington premier division men's and women's competition matches between Dalefield and Indians.
Govan said having two turfs in full operation was a "real blessing" when it came to organising draws for club games, not only because more teams could be catered for at more suitable times but because teams were now able to actually warm up before their matches.
"It's made the whole process so much easier, it's a dream from what it was before," she said.
