Tirohana Estate commented on SWDC's Facebook page, "the new toilets look fantastic, well done to all concerned".
The toilet's exterior was specially designed to fit in with local heritage buildings, particularly the adjacent museum.
"They're 21st century inside even though they're 19th century outside," Mrs McNaught said.
The new Greytown Exeloo toilets will replace the current toilets between the Greytown Butchery and St John's.
Mrs McNaught said it was likely a heritage theme would also be adopted for Greytown's toilets.
The new public toilets were part of the SWDC's Long Term Plan and were first discussed in 2011. The cost of the Exeloos for both towns is about $274,000 after $400,000 was budgeted for the replacements.
