New professional standards for school principals will be set within two months, Education Minister Anne Tolley says.
"It's time to act on the evidence of what makes a good leader and how a good leader makes a difference for students' learning," Ms Tolley told the Auckland Secondary Principals' Association yesterday.
Principals will have to set a "vision" for schools, promote New Zealand's bicultural heritage and ensure safety and focus on academic, social and cultural achievements, the Dominion Post reported.
The standards were last set in 1998.
