The deep water clam or "geoduck" and the knobbed whelk shellfish will be added to the quota management system next month.
"Both species are commercially valuable and sedentary so are susceptible to localised depletion.
"Bringing them into the quota system will make sure harvests stay at sustainable levels," Fisheries Minister Jim Anderton said.
