Buckets are now optional at Featherston Community Centre as a new roof is going on the building this week.
The community centre has been fundraising since last year, and thanks to donations from charitable trusts finally has the $100,000 needed to replace the 30-year-old roof.
Centre manager Heather Kary said the roof had been leaking since 2005, and it depended on which way the wind was blowing as to where she put her buckets.
Community centre board chairman Marcus Harvey added: "Once we have sorted out the roof, we will be right as rain, so to speak, and will be launching into 2012 fit for purpose as we welcome more people into the community centre."
Ewan Baron, a quantity surveyor by trade, is project managing the renovation voluntarily and said the work was well overdue.
