Prime Minister John Key has appointed Rotorua MP Todd McClay as a minister after the resignation of United Future leader Peter Dunne.
Mr McClay will take over Mr Dunne's Revenue portfolios, as well as his role as associate health minister. That will mean he takes over the bill to regulate the party pills industry - which is likely to go ahead because it is also Government policy.
Mr Dunne resigned as a minister last week after refusing to provide emails to an inquiry into the leak of a report on the GCSB, although he denied he was responsible for that leak.
Mr McClay will be a minister outside Cabinet and has chaired the Finance and Expenditure select committee - a common stepping stone to ministerial posts.
Mr Key said that Mr Dunne's position as associate conservation minister would be discontinued and Mr Dunne's work in that role would be taken over by Conservation Minister Nick Smith.
