A new $1.6 million police station will be built in the Christchurch suburb of Rolleston this year.
Police Minister Anne Tolley said it will be finished by September.
"The new station will incorporate modern design and technology, and is located much closer to the local community than the existing station. Our police require the best tools for the job to keep communities safe."
She thanked Canterbury police for their continuing work and dedication in "difficult" times.
