New Plymouth Airport wins best regional

Recent improvements to New Plymouth Airport have landed it the title of top regional airport in the country.

Manager Kevin Hill said the New Zealand Airports Association award recognised progress made over the last three years.

Recent developments have included a new runway surface, a new cafeteria, more parking space, and an interior redesign to improve passenger flow and safety.

"New Plymouth Airport has come a long way in recent years, to the point where we're the best regional airport in the country," Mr Hill said.

The airport had faced stiff competition from Tauranga, Rotorua and Nelson, he said.
