A new political party, called the 99 MP Party, is seeking registration with the Electoral Commission.
The leader is Margaret Robertson, who got enough signatures to spark a citizen's initiated referendum for the 1999 election on reducing the number of MPs from 120 to 99.
Mrs Robertson said yesterday the party was not a single issue party and was concerned about many issues from education to health waiting lists.
A key plank of the party's policies is to have referendums on all constitutional issues.
The 1999 referendum attracted 81.5 per cent support for reducing the number of MPs from 120 to 99. Parliament continues to have 120.
