Newly elected National MP Jami-Lee Ross today resigned as an Auckland City councillor.
Mr Ross won the seat of Botany in a by-election on Saturday.
He has advised Auckland Council chief executive Doug McKay of his resignation, effective immediately, as Howick ward councillor.
A by-election to choose Mr Ross' replacement has to be held within 82 days.
