After four years, Wairarapa Federated Farmers president Anders Crofoot has stepped down in favour of East Taratahi farmer Paul McGill.
At an AGM on Monday night, Mr McGill was nominated and elected - having been convinced by his predecessor to stand.
Mr McGill is a former Young Farmers president now organising the national Young Farmers final, to be held in Masterton this June.
He is also a Nuffield Scholar, having won the opportunity to travel the world last year, visiting Washington in March and Australia and the United Kingdom between May and December.
At Monday's AGM, Mr McGill made a presentation of what he'd learned about some of the irrigation systems used in Australia.
He manages a lamb finishing and cropping farm at East Taratahi.
Now 32, he is no longer eligible for membership in Young Farmers, but says the organisation has been good for his leadership and speaking skills.
As president of Wairarapa Federated Farmers, Mr McGill said he would push "a big focus on membership ... doing stuff that people want to be associated with".
He plans to carry on the "good work" done by Mr Crofoot alongside district councils in the region and Greater Wellington Regional Council. Mr McGill said he was keen for Federated Farmers to have "a new look", by cooperating with other bodies.
Long-serving Wairarapa Federated Farmers Meat and Fibre chairman Alan Stuart has also stepped down, in favour of Stephen Pound, an executive member from Mauriceville.
