The Labour Party has selected the party's chief press secretary Kris Faafoi to contest the upcoming Mana by-election.
The seat, north of Wellington, has been vacated by Labour MP Winnie Laban, who has resigned to take up a position at Victoria University.
Mr Faafoi headed off three other candidates; business manager Michael Evans, barrister Peter Foster and communications adviser Josie Pagani.
The National Party has put forward list MP Hekia Parata to contest the seat.
Mr Faafoi, who is a former political reporter, said he would campaign on employment, health, education and local issues like the expressway.
