Derek Quigley has been appointed Mayoral Complaints Commissioner in Auckland.
Mr Quigley, a barrister and solicitor and now a self-employed consultant in Auckland, has undertaken a number of reviews for the Government and was an MP for 12 years.
Auckland Mayor Christine Fletcher said Mr Quigley's experience in government and law made him ideally suited to the position, which she initiated in 1999 to review serious complaints against the council.
