The Government has announced a $16 million housing project to help counter illnesses caused by overcrowding.
One hundred thousand state houses will be built or extended in a bid to reduce the occurence of diseases such as meningitis.
The Auckland suburbs of Otara, Mangere and Onehunga are viewed as priority areas for the project.
