A 24-hour helpline is to be set up to enable members of the public to report suspected cases of child abuse.
Social services and employment minister Steve Maharey says the free phone service is in response to a request from Children's Commissioner Roger McClay.
Steve Maharey says child abuse is a major concern, and this line will make it easier to identify problems.
He says there has been a huge debate about child abuse in our society this year, and rightly so.
The phone number for the new service is 0508 FAMILY.
