KEY POINTS:
The naked body of Auckland hairdresser Marie Jamieson was found behind a West Auckland engineering workshop in Henderson in February, 2001.
She had last been seen nine days before, crossing the forecourt of a service station in New North Road.
The Herald reported in 2003 that police believed she was probably dumped behind the workshop six or seven days before she was found.
Detective inspector Steve Wood said he has reviewed the case. He said despite speculation, police have not confirmed any direct links between her death and drugs or gangs and they remain open minded.
"During my review I met with ESR scientists and we have identified several pieces of new forensic work that will be undertaken. There are also other phases that will take place, dependant on the forensic results.
"There is currently a male DNA profile found on the victim's clothing that remains unidentified. Obviously the identification of this remains a key part of the enquiry," Mr Wood said.
In 2003 police made a bid to get blood samples from 20 "people of interest" to try to match the DNA sample but no fresh leads came of it.
"With time and technology factors it is often worthwhile taking a fresh look at these files as new lines of inquiry can be discovered.
"It may also be that over the past seven years things have played on the minds of those with knowledge or involvement in the murder and these people will want to have a new opportunity to talk with police".
