The new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car is the successor to the best-selling racing car of all time and is based for the first time on the 911 GT3 RS. This is the first GT3 to feature the 44mm wider body at the rear, providing sufficient space for even larger wheels. Wider wheel arches also appear on the front.
Engine capacity is up by 0.2 litres and the 3.8-litre six-cylinder horizontally opposed engine develops 450bhp (331kW) through a sequential six-speed manual gearbox and weighs a mere 1200kg.
The front spoiler lip is 15mm lower to provide significantly more downforce on the front axle. Downforce on the rear axle is also increased as the rear wing has been extended from 1.46m to 1.7m and fitted higher up as a feature carried over from the even faster 911 GT3 Cup S in international FIA GT3 racing.
A racing exhaust system, with a fully controlled catalytic converter, helps reduce harmful emissions. As an exclusive feature in the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup, held as a Formula One support race, the new GT3 comes with a modified, special exhaust system with an even more dynamic and muscular sound.
Another feature in the Supercup version is PCCB (Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes) which is also available on Porsche's road models. Compared with the composite cast brake discs featured on the Carrera Cup cars, this reduces the weight by about 20kg.
Additional uniball joints are featured on the track control arms and the sword-shaped anti-roll bars front and rear are adjustable to seven different positions. This allows precise fine-tuning for different tracks around the world.
This season the GT3 will be raced in no less than seven cup trophies - in the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup as part of F1 races, and in the Porsche Carrera Cups in Germany, Asia, Japan, and Italy, as well as the GT3 Cup Challenges in the United States and the Middle East.
