Film crews will now have to apply for permission to film on public conservation land under a new Code of Practice developed by the Department of Conservation and Film New Zealand.
Conservation Minister Chris Carter was today launching the code, which aims to protect the values of public conservation land and reinforces current practice by the screen production industry.
It covers the issuing of department permits, iwi protocol on the use of specific images, the management of locations and the use of products for special effects.
The code is accompanied by a report by Film New Zealand consultant and former acting chief executive Louise Baker identifying the factors which prompted its development.
