Sixteen-year Employment Court and Labour Court judge Graeme Colgan has been appointed as the new Chief Judge of the Employment Court.
Judge Colgan will take over from Thomas Goddard who is retiring on May 19, with Judge Colgan to take over the next day, Attorney General Michael Cullen said in a statement.
Dr Cullen thanked Judge Goddard for his service to the Employment Court and its predecessor the Labour Court since being appointed in 1989.
Before being appointed to the bench, Judge Colgan worked as a barrister in Auckland and was previously with Haigh Lyon & Co for nine years.
He has been a guest and part-time lecturer at Auckland and Waikato universities and helped set up the first community law centre in Manukau in 1975.
