New charges for couple accused of ruining Fiji holidays

A couple accused of ruining Kiwi holidays in Fiji face a raft of new charges.

Anita Cranston, 34, and Craig Mudgeway, 48, appeared at the Auckland District Court today to face 23 new charges of obtaining by deception.

APNZ understands the pair are alleged to have taken bookings for a holiday home in Fiji and kept deposits from customers who couldn't stay there.

Their lawyer Tony Bouchier said the new charges relate to "less than 20 complainants''.

He told the court that his clients had been subjected to "perverse journalistic stalking'' and opposed an application from TV3 to film the proceedings.

"The Bridgecorp directors get less attention than this couple.''

Mr Bouchier said Cranston's family had been targeted and her sister did not feel safe in her home after rocks were thrown through her window.

Judge James Weir declined the media application and remanded the pair on bail.

They had been staying at a luxurious Hawkes Bay lodge set in landscaped gardens but Mr Bouchier said the pair had not been there for four weeks and provided the police with a second address in Auckland.

The pair were remanded on bail and are due back in court later this month.
