A man accused of attempting to murder a police officer faced seven new charges when he reappeared in Manukau District Court this morning.
Police said that the drugs and firearms charges were not necesssarily related to the shooting of Police Constable Jeremy Snow but were the result of items found at the scene.
Mr Snow was shot at least three times when he went to check out a suspicious vehicle at Papatoetoe, south Auckland, two days before Christmas.
The 28-year-old accused was remanded in custody until January 26 and was granted continued name suppression pending an appeal to the High Court.
Mr Snow, 28, is now back home in Auckland being cared for by his parents who moved from Great Barrier Island.
His father David Snow told the Herald he was still in a wheelchair with gunshot wounds in each leg and his left elbow.
Doctors who worked on him at Middlemore Hospital after he walked into a flurry of gunshots two days before Christmas at a Papatoetoe house said had he not been rescued so rapidly by his armed colleagues he may have bled to death. One of the bullets damaged a major blood vessel in one leg.
David Snow said his son was recovering well. He was able to push himself around in his wheelchair, but had limited use of his left arm.
He was able to hop up and down on his right leg but was weaker on his left leg, which might need a bone graft.
He said his son wanted to return to work but did not know how long his injuries would take to heal.
