Cancer patients needing radiation or chemotherapy should not be waiting for treatment for more than a month when new national health targets kick in from July.
Health Minister Tony Ryall today announced further details about the Government's plans to upgrade targets, including for cancer treatment and immunisation.
"Medical oncology is being added to the cancer waiting time target from the middle of this year. This means all patients who need either radiation or chemotherapy treatment should get it within the world gold standard of four weeks," Mr Ryall said.
"Also from the middle of this year, the immunisation target is changing from 95 per cent of all two-years-olds completing their scheduled vaccinations to 95 per cent of eight-month-olds completing their scheduled vaccinations by the end of 2014."
