New Auckland Council 'backwards' - Banks

John Banks has broken his silence abut the new Auckland Council, saying it's a disaster.

The former Auckland mayor and National Party MP is vying for the Epsom seat under the ACT ticket.

He told Newstalk ZB's Leighton Smith that the council lacks leadership.

"It lacks direction, it lacks purpose, it lacks a cohesive policy platform, it's going backwards."

John Banks says seven councils have been replaced by 21 committees, which all have unelected and Maori representation with no accountability.
