Wairarapa are determined to make their last home game during pool play in the regional netball superleague competition a winning one
They will take on. Maidstone United at the Genesis Recreation Centre in Masterton tonight, and with Maidstone United sitting bottom of the table a depleted Wairarapa side should still call the tune.
Missing from the Wairarapa squad will be Ella Biggs, Harriet Somerville and Pip Lynch all of whom are required to play for St Matthew's Collegiate at an inter-school tournament and their absence has seen Sue Button and Kelly Sargent drafted into the team.
Button plays for the Greytown club and can perform at goal attack or wing attack while Sargent was player-coach of the Wairarapa side which won the inaugural superleague competition last season.
There is every prospect that Bjutton could get some game time but Sargent, who recently had a baby, would probably only enter the fray should injuries occur.
Coach Marion Tulloch-who will also miss tonight's match as she coaches St Matthew's and will be away with them-says Wairarapa need to get back into a winning frame of mind after losing their last two games to Norths and Naenae Collegians.
"Everybody realises just how important this match is?.we have to get out of the losing habit," she said.
Standing in as coach tonight will be Sophie Paki and there is the possibility of some positional changes as well, the most notable being the likely move of the in-form Perri Tatana from wing defence to goal defence.
An ankle injury suffered by Lorraine Maloney in last Friday's close loss to Naenae Collegians is unlikely to stop her taking the court in the shooting role but experienced defender Sarah Brooking will again be sidelined. She has yet to appear in the Wairarapa colours this season.
