Nelson teen critical after hit by car

A young woman remained in a critical condition tonight after being hit by a car in Nelson last night.

Earlier that night the 19-year-old had been one of about 10 people allegedly kicking letterboxes, rubbish bins and vehicles in the city, Acting Sergeant Brett Currie of Nelson police.

It appeared the woman had walked on to the road and was hit by a vehicle.

Police said it was too early to say whether the driver would be charged.

A 16-year-old girl had been charged with disorderly behaviour soon after the incident.
