Nelson police have seized 12 cars and issued more than 70 fines in a crackdown on boy racers and dangerous driving this week.
Over the past month, police have been covertly gathering intelligence and filming offending by the Nelson boy racer fraternity.
Acting Nelson Bays Area Commander Senior Sergeant Dave Gibson said the community was not prepared to tolerate the antics of this minority group anymore.
He said they knew that issuing endless fines had not stopped the offending, but without their vehicles they may see the world differently.
Mr Gibson said police employed covert tactics in the operation to avoid the possibility of being engaged in a pursuit.
